History and Origin of FICCI ( Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry )

With a simple aim, to be the voice of the Indian industry it was established in 1927 and today FICCI is one of the largest and oldest apex business organizations in India. As its year of establishment is 1927 that simply means its history is very closely interwoven with the independence of India. Its proud and ever growing popularity is not hidden from anybody. It’s immaculate and immense contribution in the industrial sector cannot be questioned, their contribution by encouraging debate has influenced many. It is very well said to be the voice of India’s business and ever growing industry.

It would be amazing to know that FICCI has an indirect memberships of more than 2,50,000 companies from various chambers of commerce also it draws its membership from the corporate sector like private as well as public. You’ll be even amazed to know that the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) was basically started on the advice of Mahatma Gandhi by GD Birla and Ramkumar Kankrawa. Its head quarter is in New Delhi and apart from head quarter its presence can be seen in 11 states in India and 8 across the world. It is basically the non-government and non-for-profit organization.

Their strategic approach made our industry flourish in such a planned manner. Since its inception it is working like thought leader of the industry and it won’t be wrong to call it guardian for much effective implementation. It is basically working jointly on the projects like CDM, capacity buildings in LDC’s etc. It does work quite closely with the government policies towards enhancing efficiency as well as competitiveness in expanding the business opportunities through their linkages.  Not only has this but it also provided a platform for sector specific consensus.

They also strive to enhance the quality awareness among India’s entrepreneurs through their quality forum. Their contribution in the development that chiefly encompasses health, education, livelihood, skill development etc is highly appreciated. They have also set up specialized bodies that basically cater to the sectoral interests.

Their international network is very strong also it is the nodal agency of the various organizations like international chamber of commerce, Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce (CACCI) etc. It’s business information service network also meets the domestic as well international needs with full efficiency and then it contribute as well as provides high quality value-added output online that help different sectors in taking commercial decisions without wasting their time.
